The founders of Pixel & Light—Kim and Jay Kamins—have over 30 years of combined professional design experience. To compliment their skills, a select group of the finest programmers, producers, and marketers rounds out the Pixel & Light team providing clients a truly complete design and development solution.


Jay Kamins
lead creative / multimedia swiss army knife

Pixel & Light features the work of Jay Kamins.

He specializes in using design, illustration, interactivity, animation, and video to make compelling experiences that involve, instruct, and delight.

Jay's 17 year career in multimedia has spanned a wide range of industries from computer-based education to interactive television. His approach has a solid foundation in user-focused design, and regularly enriches projects by including elements such as 3D modeling and illustration, animation, sound, and video.

Jay began his professional career in Multimedia Design at SilverPlatter Education in Brookline, MA. As a designer (and later as Creative Director), Jay produced award winning educational multimedia and websites that integrated audio, video, illustration and animation.

Working with corporations, design companies, and small businesses, Jay has gained valuable insight into the subtle balancing act needed to produce eye-catching design that is practical to maintain and functional for the client. Such clients have included PBS, MIT, Barnes and Noble, Brandeis University, Cingular, Fidelity, and The United States Navy.

Jay received his BFA (Cum Laude) in Fine Arts from the University of Massachusetts.

Kim Kamins
illustrator

As a Designer and Illustrator with a background in Fine Arts, Kim is able to provide clients with a wide range of professional services including branding, product development, brochures and several illustrative styles. Kim possesses a thorough understanding of all aspects of design and print process. Her designs and illustrations can be found on shelves everywhere from Barnes & Noble to Toys 'R Us.

Kim received her BFA (Summa Cum Laude) in Fine Arts from the University of Massachusetts.

Gerald Huson
senior programmer /
application developer

With over 10 years of senior level experience developing for a wide range of industries, Gerald creates elegant, solid applications in any number of languages which can easily scale and transform as business rules evolve.

Gerald believes in the power of standards-based application design that functions properly across the widest variety of clients and is supported by all modern browsers (IE, Firefox, Safari, Mozilla, Opera). He specializes in creating customizable, database driven solutions that supply users with personalized information and high levels of security.

Jonathan Hochman

Sean Carmichael
web specialist / lead editor

Sean excels in a variety of design and web development platforms including ASP, HTML, CSS and javascript. He is also Lead Editor for Pop2Net, our web maintenance wing.

When not bravely executing projects with deadly skill, Sean leads numerous events in full Star Wars inspired costume, helping raise thousands of dollars for charity across the country. He is also appearing in the 2007 Rose Parade with Star Wars creator George Lucas.

Sean received his BFA in Fine Arts from the University of Massachusetts.

Jason Rayles
action script guru / multimedia artist

Jason is a computer programmer specializing in Flash Action Script. He has been working in Flash for over five years and has extensive experience creating dynamic, data-driven, Flash Websites and applications for clients such as Nikon, Eddie Bauer, McGraw-Hill, Cingular, and Microsoft. He has presented his work at the New England School of Photography and Harvard University. His Flash movie, The Fair, was a nominee for best story at the Flash Film Festival in New York and played as a documentary short at the Sundance Film Festival in 2005. His other interests include bookmaking and producing stories for radio.

Chris MacDonald
interactive education guru /
flash UX innovator

Chris has over 15 yrs experience as a visual designer, User Experience (UX) developer and creative director. For the last 10 years he has focused on interactive design. This focus has led to projects as diverse as interactive e-commerce solutions and e-learning tools.

A passionate educator, Chris also serves as a faculty member at several local universities. His unique, real-world approach to New Media has made his classes the "one you'd not to miss."

Chris received his BS in Fine Arts from the University of Massachusetts. He is an Adobe Certified Expert and Macromedia Flash MX Certified Designer.

Jeff Clark
illustrator / designer /
html & css specialist

After studying illustration at The Museum School of Fine Art (Boston) and graphic design at The New England School of Art and Design, Jeff served as a multimedia designer at Silver Platter Education, where he quickly became a key member of the design team, creating CD-ROM's and websites that integrated audio, video, illustration and animation.

Since becoming a freelance designer/illustrator in 2002, Jeff has produced cuting-edge designs for a variety of companies and media, from fashion to the music industry.

Jeff has many legendary tales concerning his adventures with rock bands all over the US, Canada, Europe, Scandinavia and South America.
