Jay Kamins
lead creative, illustrator, animator
Jay's
specialty is using design, illustration, interactivity and
multimedia to make compelling experiences that involve, instruct,
and delight the user.
His 15 year career in multimedia
has spanned a wide range of industries from computer-based
education to interactive television. His approach has a solid
foundation in user-focused design, and regularly enriches projects
by including elements such as 3D modeling
and illustration, Flash animation, sound and video.
Jay began his professional
career in Multimedia Design at SilverPlatter Education
in Brookline, MA. As a
designer (and later as Creative Director),
Jay produced award winning CD-ROMs and websites that integrated
audio, video, illustration and animation.
Working with corporations, design
companies and small businesses, Jay has gained valuable insights
into the subtle balancing act needed to produce eye catching
design that is also practical to maintain and fuctional for
the client. Such clients have included PBS, MIT, Barnes and
Noble, Brandeis University, Cingular, Fidelity and The
United States Navy.
In 2000, Jay launched
his own Design Company, and business has grown dramatically
since. On-site and off-site, Jay has created Websites, print
materials and advertising for companies and organizations
around the country. In addition, Jay is a faculty
member at the University
of Massachusetts, where he periodically teaches both Web Design
and New Multimedia.
Jay lives with wife and co-designer Kimberly, their daughter
Lilah, and an ever expanding variety of pets.
They
live and do business out of a small arts and crafts bungalow
in Andover, CT - midway between Boston and New York City.

Flash Designer
Concentric Visions, Boston MA: 2001
I joined Concentric Visions to
design a variety of online multimedia projects all developed within
FLASH. I created graphics, FLASH
animations, 3D models and designed and implemented instructional
interactivity.
Projects and presentations included the U.S. Navy, Cingular
Wireless, The Smithsonian Institution and The Air and Space Museum.
Freelance Visual Designer
/ Macromedia Director Developer
Interactive
Television Development
GoldPocket Interactive, Medford MA: 2001
I joined GoldPocket as a
Freelancer to help develop a major interactive project for TBS
Superstation’s
Primetime offering: "Dinner
and a Movie". Using Macromedia Director / Shockwave extensively,
I created graphics, FLASH animations and Lingo-based interactivity.
Additionally, I created visual design treatments and interactive
presentations for NBC "Must See TV" and Warner Brothers

Adjunct Faculty Member
University of Massachusetts Continuing Education Department
I have taught several courses focused around Multimedia
Design, Macromedia Dreamweaver and FLASH.
Senior Visual Designer;
Internet Development
Event Zero, Arlington MA: 2000
My team and I developed a brand for
an Internet insurance start-up and began implementing the site.
I helped
to implement user,
and then took that feedback and designed a site
that achieved the goals
the client set for us, including the creation
of a 20 minute FLASH demo. I was able to dramatically cut down programming
development time by working side by side with
the
client
to help focus his
vision
and resolve information architecture problems.
I then went
on to work with clients such as Barnes and Noble.com
and Shawmut
Capital
Partners.
Lead Designer / Creative Director;
Educational Internet and CD-ROM Development
SilverPlatter Education / HealthStream, Boston
MA: 1993-2000
I joined SilverPlatter Education
to help design a vast array of educational CD-ROMs geared
to educating
medical
professionals.
I was able to
quickly make an impact by applying my
fine arts background to make otherwise dry medical
content
come to life
using interactivity,
animation
and 3D graphics. By the time I was promoted
to Creative Director, we had made the
transition to
the Internet,
offering one
of the first
medical portals and a twice-monthly Internet
educational magazine called Primary,
which I branded, designed,
illustrated and coded.
We made over 50 issues of Primary in my time there.
